Postal surveys have been mailed to all eligible voters. Results of the survey will become available at 11:30 am 15th November AEST.
If a YES vote succeeds, a bill will be introduced to the House of Representatives before the end of the year, where it will be expected to pass (based on those who have spoken on the issue, most of Labor and at least a large minority of the Liberals will back a bill). It will then go to the Senate, where it is also expected to pass, and thus the definition of marriage will be altered to include Same-Sex couples.
If a NO vote succeeds, SSM is off the table for now. However, it will no doubt cause the PM a lingering headache. Should it not come up again in this term of government, Labor has promised to introduce a Bill withing 100 days of entering government, should it win the election (to be held late 2018 or early 2019).
