We do use a different word if we think it's needed, but most of the time people just know what we mean by something.
The English language really sucks at that. For example, "you, come here" when talking to a group of people. Is someone refering to an individual, or the whole group? That's really confusing.
Because the words are so similar it's confusing. Also, in Spanish we may also use the Spanish counterpart of the world "over" to say that something is "on" something
