I'm not going so far as to say that. The reasons given for taking him out were absolute bullshit, though. Operation Desert Storm was justified, but the invasion of the 2000's wasn't.
There's little way a country like Iraq would have had access to nuclear weaponry. Funny how US politicians attempted to blame Iran for the same reason and failed miserably. Guess there are only so many times you can pull off a lie.
Ba'athism is a weird form of Arab Socialism. Though it has none of the economic theory, it does have distinctive socialist political elements, like regionalism, anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, and possibly patriotism, though Ba'athism is too ethnocentric to fall in the category of socialist patriotism. Considering much of his opposition, Assad is certainly better than most. Though the most socialist element in Syria is undeniably the Democratic Federal System of Northern Syria, and I'm not much of a fan of Assad.
